Dear Dana,

Where do I start…? Perhaps from the beginning is best. I knew before I met you that you must be an extraordinary woman. The many times that Mark would share stories of your friendship through the years, all the while smiling and laughing, and occasionally getting teared-up, because it is, after all, real life. We met for dinner in Berkeley, a restaurant of my choosing, and I had no idea that it would be the first of so many wonderful times gathered at the table with you. You seemed to have a sense of who I was, right away, and our conversation flowed like a steady stream.

Now, after many gatherings, I get the great pleasure of jumping into our stream to create new stories, some that make us laugh and some that bring the tears, because it is, after all, real life. You are an extraordinary woman, and I know that first-hand now. Your path in life has shaped you into who you are now. Throughout your life, the blessings and the challenges, from the hands of God, have created a woman, a daughter, a sister, and a friend with equal measures of strength and kindness. Your heart is true, and seems to only seek to bring love and comfort to those around you. Your ability to listen with genuine curiosity and interest is incomparable to anyone else, which is great for me. I cherish our conversations, time gathered at the table, and the God-given blessing of being your friend. Thank you for sharing your heart and your life with me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I love & adore you,
James
